Diy 3 axis gimbal

In this tutorial we will learn how to build an Arduino Gimbal or a self-stabilizing platform with servo motors. This tutorial is actually an extension of the previous tutorial about the MPU tutorial. I designed the gimbal using a 3D modeling software. It consists of 3 MGR servo motors for the 3-axis control, and a base on which the MPU sensor, the Arduino and the battery will be placed.

There was a joke that one could take the gimbal from a quadcopter, flip upside-down, put it on a handle, and it becomes a handheld gimbal for use on land. It was an intriguing idea. I would like to share our interesting experience in the design process. Shaky video is simply unbearable. Criteria for the gimbal motor selection is easy, one that offers highest torque w. We checked 6 available ones on the market that is suitable in size, and ended up picking a most expensive one which offered best torque over current consumption performance.

I had an idea for a camera stabilizer back in as a Sophomore High-school project. I followed the RC community for a while and during this time the only camera stabilizers were still servo controlled. Suddenly, around mid, Alexmos came out with one of the first hobby-level brushless controllers.
